A Colorado Springs Air Force Academy athletics official was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in a police sting this week. This led to his decision to resign from his position as the head of an athletics nonprofit group the Air Force Academy regulated. Apparently, an undercover police officer was acting as the prostitute when the Colorado Springs man offered cash in exchange for sex.
What Does Colorado Law Say About Solicitation?
Colorado law defines Soliciting for Prostitution – C.R.S. 18-7-202 – as:
- Soliciting another for the purpose of prostitution; or
- Arranging or offering to arrange a meeting of the persons for the purpose of prostitution; or
- Directing another to a place knowing such direction is for the purpose of prostitution.
Is Solicitation of a Prostitute a Sex Crime in Greeley?
Fortunately in Weld, Morgan, and Logan County, as long as the prostitute is 18 years or older, Soliciting for Prostitution is not considered a sex offense and does not require registration or the other harsh punishments involved in sex crimes. However, Patronizing a Prostituted Child is a sex offense, which requires sex offender registration and a possible indeterminate sentence in prison or probation supervision.
