A Longmont man was arrested in Weld County and charged with multiple crimes, including Kidnapping, Burglary, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, and Menacing. How can someone be charged with so many crimes in one night? Let’s take a look at how charges pile up in Morgan, Washington, and Logan County.
One Bad Night = Multiple Charges
Sometimes one night of bad decisions can result in multiple charges. Just ask a Longmont man. According to news reports, the man spent the night drinking with his friends in a home in Longmont. The owner of the home drove his friends home, and then retired for the night. Bright and early, he and his wife heard someone knocking on the front door; it was the man, and he had a shotgun with him. Apparently, the man demanded his friend drive him to look for his car. He then loaded his friend up in the car, and they took off. The police eventually caught up with them on a road in Weld County, and arrested the man. He was charged with the following crimes:
- Second Degree Kidnapping – C.R.S. 18-3-302
- First Degree Burglary – C.R.S. 18-4-202
- Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender – C.R.S. 18-12-108
- Felony Menacing – C.R.S. 18-3-206
The man is being charged with Kidnapping because he moved another person from one place to another, against that person’s will. He is facing Burglary charges because he unlawfully entered a home with the intent to commit a crime (Kidnapping and Menacing). He is facing the weapons charge, because he has a felony conviction in his past, and because of this, it is illegal for him to own or possess a weapon. Menacing was added because he put the man he kidnapped, his wife, and his children (in the home) in danger of imminent serious bodily injury by threatening them with a gun.
